James Buckley was raised in the Philadelphia suburbs (Delaware County) and received a BS in Economics from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in 1986. He completed his MBA at Temple University in 1991.


He began his career with BDP International in 1987 and was there during many of its years of phenomenal growth; he served in roles on both the export and import side of the business and rose to the position of regional vice president/general manager; his philosophy of customer advocacy and passion for the business of transportation was molded at BDP


Buckley moved to Fritz Companies in Dallas in 2001 and played a major role in the rework of the Center of Excellence attempted by Fritz in the late 1990’s. When the company merged with UPS, his contract was paid and he started Zena Logistics as an agency for Landstar Logistics in 2003. He transferred his agency to Excel Tranportation in 2010 which eventually evolved into Mode Transportation; he holds a small equity position in its parent company Mode Holdings LLC; Zena Logistics started with support of freight forwarders with port pickups and deliveries and later evolved into an LTL specialist and provider of support for the oilfield products and materials handling industries.


He is past president of the Transportation Club of Dallas Fort Worth and the North Texas Roundtable of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. He holds a customs broker license issued by the United States Department of Homeland Security.


He has served as an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Marketing and Logistics at the University of North Texas where he taught the core transportation course. He has traveled to fifty states and six continents.


He has benefited from some superb mentors over the years and is profoundly grateful to all of them.


He is married to language professor and translator Paola Tettamanzi; together they have five adult children and one grandchild. He holds conversational proficiency in French and Italian.

Senior Freight Market and Rate Analyst / Director of Off-Site Team Activities / Key Account Coordinator

Matthew Martin started with Zena Logistics in 2019 as a billing analyst and track/trace coordinator.


Matthew is the senior member of our staff; he specializes in freight rate analysis and handles bids and all RFQs. Matthew is also the primary team lead for several key accounts, directs our off-site track/trace team, and handles relations with many of our carrier partners, including all LTL disputes.


Matthew graduated Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas in 2015 and attended Gonzaga University and the University of Texas at Dallas.

Senior Freight Market and Rate Analyst / Director of Off-Site Team Activities / Key Account Coordinator

Matthew Martin started with Zena Logistics in 2019 as a billing analyst and track/trace coordinator.

Traffic Coordination / Carrier Vetting and Verification / Spot Rate Negotiation

Michael Martin began as a summer intern at Zena Logistics in 2020 and continued each summer until his permanent hire in 2024 after college graduation; His main duty was to track freight in transit and resolve issues that arose to ensure on time delivery or at least mitigate freight delays;


Michael now specializes in Traffic Coordination, spot rate negotiation and carrier analysis. He communicates with shippers/receivers to ensure smooth and safe load and unload of product. He also vets all carriers and negotiates spot rates; he ensures that all safety protocols are followed by carriers based on shipper stipulations; he coordinates the verification of all new carrier qualifications for Mode. He tracks pickups and ensures all parties are aware and prepared for so that the shipper loads as quickly as possible;


In his time at Zena, he has learned the nuances of logistics from more senior players and has developed a strong understanding that goes beyond college studies.


Michael is a Dallas native, born and raised. He graduated Jesuit College Prep in Dallas in 2020 and graduated from Spring Hill College in 2024 with a BS in Supply Chain Management, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

LTL Coordinator / Sales and New Accounts / Dimensional analyst

John Wengierski began his tenure at Zena Logistics in August, 2021 as a billing assistant and quickly transferred to a logistics coordinator role where he focuses on dimensional analysis and LTL classifications. He recently expanded his repertoire to include new customer research and sales.


John helps to ensure the smooth delivery of freight through various checks and verifications. His focus on freight details can drive down to the finest minutiae so that we know exactly what is being shipped. From dimensions and gross weights to hazardous classification to confirmation of shipper and consignee details, John designates and sources the proper methods of freight movement based on information collected. These checks become especially important with the movement of non-standard freight such as oilfield equipment and material handling equipment. Additionally, John focuses on proper freight classification for LTL movements.


John graduated Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas in 2016 and graduated the University of Alabama with a BA in English in 2021.
